Health & Human Services Fund

This fund supports programs and services seeking to improve people's health and/or address basic needs. You can collaborate with Thrivent Charitable and other donors to make the change that matters most to you.

For more than 140 years, Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan (LSS) has been walking alongside individuals and families facing some of life's greatest challenges. Through a comprehensive network of behavioral health, housing, family support, disability services, and youth programs, LSS helps people of all ages find stability, healing, and hope. Their work is rooted in the belief that every person deserves the opportunity to live a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life.

Today, LSS serves communities across Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, including the Fox Valley region, where it provides critical support for individuals struggling with mental health concerns, substance use disorders, homelessness, disabilities, trauma, and family instability. Through innovative, evidence-informed programs and compassionate care, LSS helps people build resilience, strengthen relationships, and create brighter futures.

The impact of Thrivent Charitable's support

Thanks to Thrivent Charitable's partnership, LSS has been able to transform lives throughout Northeastern Wisconsin by expanding access to behavioral health services, residential treatment and recovery programs, affordable housing, and family-centered support. Last year alone, Thrivent Charitable's support helped LSS serve more than 2,100 individuals in the Fox Valley region, including children, youth, adults, and families working to overcome significant challenges and achieve lasting stability.

Thrivent Charitable's support has helped provide safe housing for individuals experiencing homelessness, strengthen families through in-home behavioral health services, support older adults and individuals with disabilities in maintaining independence, and create pathways to recovery for individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges.

The impact can be seen in countless stories of transformation. Youth who arrived in treatment without hope have graduated from high school and begun building brighter futures. Individuals experiencing homelessness have found stable housing and renewed independence. Women and families navigating substance use recovery have received trauma-informed care that supports healing and strengthens family relationships. Through each of these experiences, lives have been changed, dignity has been restored, and hope has been renewed.
