Everlyn Banaag was inspired to pursue higher education by her family’s dedication to learning. She plans to return to her home and family in the Philippines after completing her doctoral studies on innovative leadership in changing cultures at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo.
Once back home, Everlyn says, “I will strengthen my
commitment to the church and to non-governmental organizations in their advocacy for trafficked women and children, the poor, and the displaced by offering research-based programs and policy proposals.”
Her future goals include establishing a church consultancy organization to help strengthen the local church in executing its mission, especially those actively participating in works of justice. “At the same time, my goal is to pass on to the next generation of leaders culturally tailored training tools that are strengthened by my academic learning, experiences, and research.”
Everlyn says, “By awarding me the scholarship, you have encouraged me to keep obeying what God has called me to do. You have lightened my financial burden, which will allow me to focus more on the most important aspect of my time in the seminary—learning. I hope one day I’ll be able to give back and help other students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.”
