Disaster Response & Resiliency Fund

This fund supports immediate and long-term resources and relief for individuals and communities affected by natural and human-instigated disasters—nationally and internationally. You can collaborate with Thrivent Charitable and other donors to make the change that matters most to you.

Thrivent Charitable's support has helped Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light expand its innovative Community-Based Resilience Hub program across Minnesota. Funding enabled the organization to launch its first eight-month Community of Practice, providing hands-on coaching and support to eight faith communities as they developed and implemented resilience plans designed to serve their neighborhoods during emergencies and everyday challenges.

As a result of this work, participating congregations have achieved meaningful milestones. Some have installed solar energy and battery backup systems that can provide power during outages, while others have created plans for cooling centers, community gardens, emergency preparedness initiatives, and neighborhood support networks. Every participating community completed a resilience plan and strengthened its ability to care for neighbors in times of crisis.

Thrivent Charitable's investment has also helped Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light reach thousands of Minnesotans through public trainings, educational webinars, newsletters, and community partnerships. By strengthening faith communities as trusted gathering places and centers of support, Thrivent Charitable is helping build a more resilient Minnesota where local leaders are equipped to respond to challenges and care for those most affected by them.

One powerful example is Gloria Dei Church in Duluth, which, with guidance from Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light, installed one of Minnesota's first church-based battery backup systems and is preparing to add solar power. These improvements will help the congregation provide critical resources for neighbors during power outages and extreme weather events. Similar efforts are underway in other communities, creating a growing network of faith-based resilience hubs across the state.

Through this partnership, Thrivent Charitable is not only supporting immediate community needs but also helping create lasting systems of preparedness, connection, and hope for communities throughout Minnesota.
